Congratulations to Phakakorn Panpho who passed her PhD viva today. Her PhD title was “Biomechanics and biochemistry of the aorta in chronic aortic dissection” and her examiners were Prof. Aung Oo (External examiner, Cardiovascular Surgery Clinical Lead for Aortovascular Surgery at The Barts Heart Centre) and Dr Jude Curran (Internal Examiner).
The LABB Group would like to thank Dr Hannah Davies for all her contributions to the LABB Group. Hannah was involved in our research since the inception of the LABB Group. Hannah has taken on a new role at University of Liverpool as the Human Material and Quality Assurance Officer. We wish her well in her new role.
Congratulations to Mark Field who has been appointed as an Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at University of Liverpool.

University of Liverpool, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital Trust, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Health Partners have allied their forces to tackle the stark issue of Cardiovascular health in the North West.

We presented a poster (Phakakorn Panpho) and an oral presentation on our work at BiomedEng19 held at Imperial College which took place 5th-6th Sept 2019. Congratulations to Phakakorn Panpho who was awarded a BHF Travel Award.
The LABB group presented their work at the Liverpool Aortic Surgery Symposium VIII on 28th June 2019, which was attended by leading cardiothoracic surgeons from the UK and USA. Dr Jill Madine delivered a talk entitled 'Idiopathic degenerative thoracic aneurysms are associated with increased aortic medial amyloid'. Dr Riaz Akhtar gave a talk entitled 'Is bicuspid aortopathy associated with distinct patterns of matrix degradation?' Congratulations to Riaz who was awarded the Best abstract presentation for scientific research in Thoracic Aortic surgery.
Our paper 'Idiopathic degenerative thoracic aneurysms are associated with increased aortic medial amyloid' has now been published in the journal Amyloid.
